The CMA is a national, voluntary association of physicians that advocates on behalf of its members and the public for access to high quality health care, and provides leadership and guidance to physicians. The CMA was founded in 1867 and is guided by its mission and vision statements. It is a federation made up of the 12 provincial and territorial medical associations and represents more than 82,000 physicians.
