Resident doctors play a pivotal role in supporting Canada’s healthcare system. In addition to our role as learners, we are also service providers and educators. Our triumvirate of roles serve Canadians on a daily basis throughout the country. National Resident Awareness Week on February 15-19, 2016 celebrates the contribution Resident Doctors make. Throughout the week, Resident Doctors of Canada (RDoC) will be showcasing a variety of new communication products through our website (residentdoctors.ca) and various social media channels.
On Tuesday, February 16 we will release a new infographic, Ten Fast Facts about Resident Doctors in Canada. Using our internal metrics combined with recent data from other national health organizations, Ten Fast Facts presents important information about us in a visually compelling way.
From February 17-19, we will release two Resident Profiles on our website each day. Each profile is a first-person account intended to help learners with their career decision-making process. The story-telling format presents a “true-to-life” description of what it is really like to be a resident training in various specialties by presenting the personal experience of a Resident Doctor. After Resident Awareness Week, we’ll continue to release additional profiles on a regular basis.
In addition to these efforts, our Provincial Housestaff Organizations will be holding a number of events and activities across the country. For more information on these events in your region, please visit their websites:

RDoC represents over 9,000 resident doctors across Canada. Established in 1972, we are a not-for-profit organization providing a unified, national voice for our membership. RDoC collaborates with other national health organizations to foster excellence in training, wellness, and patient care.
On behalf of the RDoC Board of Directors, I wish every Resident Doctor a Happy National Resident Awareness Week. I hope the work we are doing for Resident Awareness Week will make you as proud as I am!
